EU’s guidance for risk assessment of flavorings and enzyme According to the adoption of EC’s regulations on food additives, flavorings and enzyme (EC 1331/2008; 1332/2008; 1333/2008; 1334/2008) which came in to force on 20 January 2009, the guidance for risk assessment of these substances is currently in a drafting process. Flavourings European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has now published the draft guidance on data required for the risk assessment of flavourings as well as the preparation and submission of applications. Interested parties still have the opportunity to provide comments on the draft guidance until 7 December 2009. It is revealed by the EFSA that the final guidance will be finalised in early 2010 taking into account the received comments. In addition to the draft guidance, 2800 flavourings sold in the EU market have been being conducted risk assessment which is expected to be completed soon. Enzymes guidance The guidance for enzymes published in April has been conducted a consultation for submissions for enzymes approval under the common authorisation procedure.
